Local History

The area's first permanent European settler, John Evins, established a plantation around 1810 on land long inhabited by Creek people.

In 1910, about 150 acres north of Peachtree Road were developed as a planned community with a nine-hole golf course designed by Herbert Barker; the course opened in 1912 and expanded to 18 holes in 1915, one of Georgia's early country-club subdivisions.

From 1924 to the 1960s the area was incorporated as the city of North Atlanta.

In 1963 North Atlanta voters chose disincorporation over charter renewal, dissolving the city.
