Local History

Named after Revolutionary War general Henry Dearborn (a former U.S. Secretary of War), the area began as a stagecoach stop on the Sauk Trail between Detroit and Chicago; the early settlement was originally called Springwells (anglicized from the French for the natural springs there).

First permanent settlement dates to 1786; the community of Dearbornville was laid out in 1833.
