Otsego was established in the fall of 1831 by the Samuel Foster family from Vermont; early settlers Giles Scott and Hull Sherwood first called it 'Pine Creek.'

The Otsego Mineral Springs Bath House drew visitors in the 1870s until about 1887, when George Bardeen's paper-mill operations depleted the mineral springs.
