Local History

Settlement began in 1833; before settling on its name the community was called South Northfield, North Branch, Oak Glen/Glen Oak, Barr, Rugenville, and Hutchings.

In 1895 residents met in a room above Al Eustic's saloon and voted to name the town 'Glen View'; the 1899 incorporation papers rendered it as one word, Glenview, official June 20, 1899.

The Kennicott family were among the first settlers of Northfield Township in March 1836; John Wagner homesteaded a farm in 1837 that endures as a working dairy.

Curtiss Flying Service bought 345 acres in the 1920s and built Curtiss-Reynolds Airfield in 1929, dedicated just nine days before the 1929 stock market crash.
